A historic theater in the City of Franklin, Indiana.
The Historic Artcraft Theatre is owned by Franklin Heritage, Inc. - A 502C3 Non-Profit Group. The Artcraft boasts the longest running-movie theatre in Franklin. It is the site of many first dates, first jobs, and great memories. The Artcraft's exemplifies the American movie theatre while also bucking some its trends. The Artcraft's history shows the importance of local cultural institutions and how small communities reached out to the rest of the country.
Built in 1922 as a silent movie theater and Vaudeville house, the Artcraft Theatre was built complete with an orchestra pit and full stage with dressing rooms below. It was renovated in 1936 when Trueman Rembusch purchased the building and again in 1948 when the classic Art Deco streamlining and neon were added. The Artcraft Theatre remains one of the most intact Art Deco movie houses in central Indiana and is listed on the Indiana State Register of Historic Places.
